Backup Awareness

Apricorn's EZ Gig II

This is the software that comes with the Fujitsu drive.

http://www.apricorn.com/product_detail.php?type=reg&id=1180

The software is fairly straight forward. With everything you'll need to backup and restore a hard drive. Features include:

# Ideal for hard drive upgrades and backups
# Creates exact clone of a Hard Drive
# Generates compressed, password-protected backup images
# Upgrade, Backup or Restore via USB, PC Card or IDE
# Runs Under Windows or Bootable CD
# Automatic and Expert modes
# Dynamic resizing to match new Hard Disk
# Easy to protect and restore important data and settings

The software is blissfully easy to use. My first image backup of 40gb of data took about 7 minutes - very fast and compressed to nearly half. You can restore individual files out of a compression or use it's disaster recovery tools to restore the entire image. It's speed and use make it ideal. T

The hardware itself is small and frills free. No fancy one-touch backup here. The embedded cable is short, but the drive comes with two extension cables- one regular extension cable and another with a second USB connector in case your system doesn't supply enough power with just one connection. The documentation is excellent. With a nice troubleshooting section and completed non-Engrish instructions.

Unfortunately, despite it's ease, my client still preferred automated backups and considering the software running on here and that some people work late, it's a good point. So since this software has no scheduling options and won't run with command line instructions, I have to skip using Apricom's software and go with scheduled NTBackups instead.
