Backup Awareness

Converting tape backup to an external USB hard disk

So these same clients that are running the Travan 40GB and I are rather sick of the slow backups and expensive tapes. And now we've decided to move to an external hard drive.

I'd like to have a hard drive that has decent backup software. This workstation functions as a small server in a doctor's office and I'd like to have software that comes with it that will run regularly scheduled backups of the entire system.

After reviewing a number of drives and their software I decided to go with the Fujitsu external drive.

Some of the aspects that were rated as a con were a plus for us. The involved (confusing) software is what we need for full backups. Synchronization isn't important (but might be explored later) and the fixed cable isn't an issue as the drive isn't going mobile.

The entire workstation hard drive only holds about 10GB of data. I'm hoping to create folders for every day of the week and backup the entire C: drive into one folder every day.

I've ordered the drive from CDW and I'll be installing it early next week. I'll let you know what I think of the software then.
